Spots for Your Veggie Garden

Spring has everyone’s mouth watering with the thought of fresh, delicious vegetables. What better way to get these warm-weather treats than to grow them in your own yard? Plump, red tomatoes. Thick, green peppers. Big, golden squash. These all need three things to flourish – sun, sun, and more sun. If you plant your own vegetable garden this season, pick a spot that gets at least six to eight hours of direct sunlight. Also, make sure you choose a location that you can easily reach with your hose, because your garden needs 1-1/2 inches of water a week in hot, dry weather. But avoid too much standing water. A garden needs good drainage because most plants can’t stand wet feet - that’s soggy roots. Try to plant far from trees and shrubs, so they won’t steal water.
